Tips for Starting AIP/Paleo

The Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) diet is my recommended diet for clients who want to heal fast and keep inflammation down.


After you have eliminated potential inflammatory foods for 30-60 days, you begin the process of reintroducing foods and it gets a lot easier.


But getting started can be difficult, especially if you are not used to eating a paleo type diet.


Here are my top 4 tips for starting AIP:


1. KISS (keep it simple stupid) :)

You will find many paleo/AIP cookbooks with intricate recipes that require a lot of skill and time in the kitchen. But, you don’t have to be a chef to eat better for your body. Keeping it simple is key. Create meals with meat and veggies, cooked and seasoned simply.


2. Eat carb containing veggies and healthy fats! I cannot stress this enough. If you are used to eating SAD (Standard American diet) then your body is used to getting plenty of fuel from sugar and carbs. That changes on paleo diets when your body is forced to go into a state of ketosis and begin using fat as its fuel. Including carb containing veggies like sweet potatoes and healthy fats like avocado and olive oil help your body make this transition and get the fuel it needs.

3. Get organized! There is nothing worse than being on a strict diet and realizing you don’t have groceries or a meal prepped when you are hungry! Grocery shop on a regular basis (1-2 times a week) and plan your meals!

4. Eat meals that YOU enjoy! You know your favorite foods. And yes, you can’t eat some of them on AIP but you can include elements from your favorite meals. I have included free recipes from different cuisines on my website, including Mexican, Italian, and Chinese!
